Sleep Apnea Symptoms
Sleep apnea sufferers snore, but even the loudest snoring does not indicate sleep apnea in itself. It is the fact that the snoring (and breathing) stops that indicates sleep apnea.
Breathing is resumed after 10 seconds or more, usually with a gasp, snort or jerk.
Symptoms of sleep deprivation resulting from sleep apnea:
- Excessive daytime sleepiness (hyper-somnolence), includuing
- Falling asleep while travelling, during meetings etc
- Regularly falling asleep while upright (eg while watching the television)
- Depression
Sleep apnea sufferers may also experience acid reflux, a very unpleasant sensation in the middle of the night.
