When Is Snoring Really Serious?

If you are worried about your snoring, you should consult with your doctor, particularly if you have reason to believe your snoring may be indicative of a potential health problem.

Having said that, not all snoring is dangerous.

Does your snoring stops when you shift your body position during sleep?

  • If the snoring stops, it probably isn't serious.
  • If, on the other hand, you snore in any sleep position, you should take medical advice.

When to consult a doctor

* You should consider snoring a problem if you ever find yourself not breathing and needing to wake up in order to find your breath (or if your partner witnesses this happening while you sleep). You may have sleep apnea.

* If you are losing sleep from your own snoring, or interfering with the sleep of your partner, you should consider your snoring problematic.

* If you feel you are suffering from excessive daytime sleepiness.

* If you are worried and need reassurance.
